Belgian and French Ale

Style Family Snapshot

The Belgian and French Ale family has a large, and somewhat eccentric array of members. There are Pale, Red, Golden, Brown, and Dark Ales, as well as seasonal farmhouse ales such as Saison and Biere de Garde. As we can tell from some of the names, the color can vary widely. Less obvious is the great range in strength, aroma, and flavor. More so than the other ale families, some examples can challenge the palate with spicy intensity and complex flavor profiles that approach wine. Start exploring now, and enjoy!
