English Ale

Style Family Snapshot

Our English Ale family contains Pale Ales, Bitters, and Brown Ales, all expressions of the quintessential pub ale. The English Pale Ale is a bottled version of the Bitter style, but with a less obvious hop presence. India Pale Ale is a higher gravity and more-highly hopped version of Pale Ale. As for English Bitter, there are three versions, all served on tap. From Ordinary through Extra Special the hop and malt contributions become increasingly strong. Finally, English Brown Ales, with their nutty or caramel notes, can be grouped into Mild, Southern, and Northern.
