Beer and Food: Mediterranean

Our consideration of Mediterranean cuisine focuses on the northern shores of the Sea including Spain, Greece, and Italy with its great variety of pastas and sauces, as well as lamb and pork dishes. In the south, there are pasta dishes and the lighter meat and seafood dishes of these regions. In the north, the fare is richer and heavier, consisting of dishes such as polenta, potatoes, and risottos accompanied by meat and seafood.

The wine tradition in these regions is strong, but proceed with confidence that beer can do service for you here, too. For southern dishes, consider a light beer that is not overly strong that compliments the lighter meals. For the north, a stronger flavored beer is appropriate to compliment the heavier dishes found there.
