1700ís - Colonialism
Colonialism. Industrialization. Beer.
Englandís Imperial Navy sailed far and wide in little wooden ships to new lands, bringing with them their language, their laws, and their beer. However, their language and their laws traveled better than their brews, and for the long trip to India, the heavily hopped India Pale Ale was developed so the hops would act as a preservative. In North America, where old things were becoming ever new, other styles evolved. In industrializing cities such as London, the factory working class created new demand for beer. The cloudy heritage of the porter style is traced to this era.
