Tasting Beer: Goals
The ability to evaluate beer is a practical and pleasant skill to acquire for both the homebrewer and beer consumer. For the homebrewer, it should be the most enjoyable and rewarding part of the entire beermaking process. Goals of beer tastings can range from:
- Having a new beer at a pub, with the goal being merely a “that’s good” or “that’s swill” decision,
- Evaluating how your new batch of homebrew turned out, and how it might be improved,
- Hosting or attending a friendly beer-tasting party, or
- Attending a formal tasting as a judge.
In any event, the burden of your responsibilities will not be without reward.
