Steeping Bags

What it does :

Homebrewers used these bags to immerse hops or specialty grains in the wort during the boil.

What it is:

Steeping bags are porous bags, made of nylon or some other permeable material, that close with a drawstring.

How it works:

These bags permit the extraction of the desired elements from the ingredients but keep the unwanted particles out of the wort. Think of them as large tea bags for making beer.

Preparation:

Steeping bags are used during the hot side of wing (e.g. wort preparation). They should be cleaned before use, as you would anything used to prepare food. They are immersed in the boiling wort, which should protect it from contamination.
