Measuring Scales
What it does : | This is a critical item needed when you are measuring ingredients for a brew. |
What it is: | A scale is a universally useful item for a kitchen and is used to measure weights. Modern digital versions can switch between English and metric units at the touch of a button. |
How it works: | Smaller scales are useful for hops and other ingredients of similar, relatively small amounts. Serious all-grain brewers should have one that can handle up to about 20 pounds (9 kilograms). |
Preparation: | Scales are used in preparation for the hot side of brewing (e.g. wort preparation). Therefore, they should be cleaned before use, as you would anything used to prepare food. Boiling the wort should protect it from contamination resulting from contact with the scale. |
