What it is: | Chococlate Rye Malt is a rye malt that is black, or 190-300 Lovibond, in color. It is produced by maltsters who roast the grain at high temperatures until the desired color is achieved. Vital Statistics |
| ||||
Dosage: | Chocolate Rye Malt can be up to 3 percent of your grist. Of course, the actual amount you need depends on the style of beer that you are making. Use our brewing calculators to compute the exact amount you need to achieve your specific original gravity and color targets. | ||||
Preparation: | Little if any starch conversion is possible for Chocolate Rye Malt. Therefore you can either steep it in 150 F (60 C) water for 20-30 minutes to extract the desired color and flavor or add the grains directly to the mash. |
