Aromatic Malt is a barley malt that is deep brown, or 23 Lovibond, in color. It has been lightly roasted after malting to develop a moderate color, flavor, and aroma.
Aromatic Malt is a base malt and can be 5-20 percent of your grist. Of course, the actual amount you need depends on the style of beer that you are making. Use our brewing calculators to compute the exact amount you need to achieve your specific original gravity and color targets.
To extract fermentable sugars from Aromatic Malt, you need to mash it with the base malts before boiling the resulting extract in the wort.
